Home Winemaking
Listed below are the approximate harvesting dates for each variety
Chardonnay - Oct. 1st to Oct. 15th
Pinot Noir - Oct. 1st to Oct. 15th
Cabernet Franc - Oct. 15th to Nov. 5th
Riesling - Oct. 15th to as late as weather permits, and potentially botrytized
Note: We can advise home winemakers as to when grapes should be harvested to make sparkling wine for any of the varieties, including Cabernet Franc and Riesling. It is widely known that Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are essential ingredients for Champagne, but sparkling Cabernet Franc rosé is also worth a try and is a delicious specialty of the Loire Valley. Thankfully, sparkling Riesling (specialty of Germany) has caught on to some extent in the Finger Lakes (Chateau Frank and McGregor are tasty examples), but not to the extent we would like to see, so we encourage you to give it a try.
